And for those who do join us….

We’ve compiled a bit of information that we hope will answer some of your questions.  If it doesn’t, don’t be afraid to ask anyone.  We hope that being a part of WCC will be a stress-free, fun part of your life.  We’re glad you’re here!

The WCC exists for two main reasons. The first is to entertain both ourselves and others.  We put on two shows a year: a holiday show in December and a spring show usually in May.  Our second is to raise funds to provide music scholarships for private lessons for Westborough Junior and Senior High School students.  These scholarships are made possible through the proceeds from our annual Yard Sale in the fall, our Spring Show Raffle Basket Sale and the generous donations of others.  We also offer a scholarship to a child of a participating Mom or Dad, not necessarily living in Westborough.

We rehearse Monday nights from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.  Most rehearsals are held at the Westborough Senior Center on Rogers Road.  Occasionally, we rehearse at The Willows, 1 Lyman Street.  As the show date gets closer, we increase rehearsals to twice a week (Monday and Wednesday) and then three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).  During show week, we rehearse every night, with dress rehearsal on Thursday.  We try to be finished by 10 pm. Our shows are on Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm and Sunday after noon at 2pm.  Believe it or not, even though we are working hard, we have a good time and become good friends.  And we make beautiful music together!

Our chorus has grown to between 80 – 100 members.  That many people can be noisy even when whispering.  We ask that you try to keep the whispering down when Deb is working with a different section.

Our librarians will give you a folder of music with your name on it.  It is not necessary to be able to read music.  If you mark or make notes in it, please use pencil so that you can erase it before turning it in during show week.  Please put it in alphabetical order to make it easier for the librarians to put it away.  We don’t hold music during the show. The best way to learn the music is to practice it.  Many chorus members record, using a digital or tape recorder and then listen during the week, Deb also creates a drop box entry for each section‘s notes to help you.

In case of bad weather, you will be contacted by email or phone if rehearsal is cancelled.

Rehearsals are important. Please make them a priority.

Some of our members have serious responses to strong scents.  Please do not wear strong perfume, hair spray, scented lotions or aftershaves to rehearsal or the show.  Your cooperation in this will be greatly appreciated.

Each member is asked to pay an amount for each show.  The fee is $ 15 per show for each individual.  If you choose to pay pay your dues in September, it is $ 25 for both shows.  If you are experiencing financial hardship, please speak to the President, Vice President, Treasurer or Director.  We never want lack of funds to keep you from participating in the chorus.

Shortly after the beginning of the season, a list of chorus members with addresses, emails and phone numbers is generated and distributed to all members.  Officers are indicated to make it easier to identify them if you need to reach them.

Our website is the go-to place for information.  Please offer ideas, pictures, etc. to keep it fun and dynamic.  Our website is www.westboroughchorus.com.

Occasionally we perform at events other than our two annual shows.  We usually sing at the two local long-term care facilities during the holiday season.  We have performed at “Arts in Common” for many years.  In 2009, we performed at a five-chorus joint performance at Hanover Theater.  We participated in Westborough’s 300th Anniversary parade in 2017.  Participation in these events is optional but great fun.
